    After seven years working with our founder Glasgow Caledonian University, GCNYC has transferred to a new sole member, IE University, and will change its name to IE New York College (IENYC). Globally renowned for social impact for business and ESG Education, IE University and the future IE NYC have complementary purposes with a focus on driving positive change through education, research and innovation.

    Established in 1973 as IE Business School, IE University is now recognized as one of the most innovative universities in the world according to international rankings. IE University promotes positive change through education, research, and innovation. The academic institution offers a technology-based learning ecosystem for leaders who make a difference in the world with global vision, an entrepreneurial mindset, respect for diversity and sustainability, and a unique focus on the humanities. The university comprises six schools with more than 500 professors who teach students from 130 countries. IE University’s platform of more than 82,000 alumni is present in 185 countries. IE University has had a long history of engagement with the business world and is a firm believer in the power of business to change the world for the better. They have been ranked by the Financial Times as 1st in the world in ESG and Net Zero Teaching, and they collaborate widely with the United Nations on the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals.

    • No, all current students will complete the courses they need to graduate as originally planned for them.

    • The only planned changes are to the college’s Registrar and Student Finance Office.

    • All students, staff, and faculty have been assigned IENYC email addresses to replace their GCU or Caledonian email addresses. For questions, contact IT@ienyc.ie.edu .

    • No, this will not delay the mailing of diplomas for students who have graduated.  Please know that diploma processing with the New York State Education Department can take a few months.

    • Students completing their degrees in July will have diplomas that say Glasgow Caledonian New York College. Due to the projected name change for the College, students who complete their programs in December 2024 or later will have diplomas that say IE New York College.

    • IT Support can still be reached at it@ienyc.ie.edu. 

    • As a nonprofit institution, GCNYC has not been owned by another corporate entity, but it has had a sole member – Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) – that exercised limited control over the College and provided direct and indirect support for GCNYC’s operations. As our new sole member, IE University will provide resources similar to those that have been provided by GCU, but IE NYC will remain an independent institution, chartered by the New York State Board of Regents and accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

    • Students will continue to have access to the GCU Library through their user accounts, which will expire August 31st. Prior to September 1st, students will be given access to IEU’s De la DeHesa Library, which provides access to the WorldCat Discovery platform.

    • Students will continue to have access to Blackboard until their GCU user accounts expire on August 31st.  New Blackboard content will be provided through IE user accounts beginning Trimester A.

    • Yes, IENYC is recruiting students for entry into the M.S. in Business for Social Impact and Sustainability in Trimester B 2025, and for entry into the M.S. in Sustainable Fashion and the M.S. in Business for Social Impact and Sustainability in Trimester A 2025.

    • Yes, Commencement will take place on Saturday December 7th at 64 Wooster St. Registration for Commencement will be emailed to students/graduates in September.

    • No, this change will have no impact on international students’ current OPTs or OPT applications. Please reach out to John Albanese with any specific questions regarding your OPT plans.
